Dive bars can be
great for socializing and meeting new friends from all over. Some of these bars
are also known for seeing local bands that you might have never seen before. Denver is known for having some of the best dive
bars in the country.
Hi-Dive
The Hi-Dive is a favorite Denver
dive bar located at 7 South Broadway and open from 4 pm to 2 am. The
drinks are strong, reasonably priced and the bartenders friendly.
The Hi-Dive is known for the live local bands with ticket
prices rarely over $12. They seem to have different bands playing there almost every
night. Hi-Dive is a small music venue and dive bar all in one. If they don’t
have a band lined up, they have special nights like Goth Night and 80's Dance
Party. You can see live band information on the Hi-Dive website.
My Brother's Bar
My Brother's Bar is located in the Highland
neighborhood at 2376 15th street
and open from 11 am to 2 am. Serving drinks since the late 1880s, they
are the oldest bar in Denver and a
mix between a Denver institution
and a dive bar. The bar was a hangout for author Jack Kerouac and his group
with a picture of him near the back.
My Brother's Bar has a large selection of beer including craft
beers and is known for serving good hamburgers including one with jalapeño
cream cheese. The crowd is friendly and easygoing and there is a large parking
lot in back.
El Chapultepec
Located at 1962 Market Street,
El Chapultepec is one of Denver's
oldest bars and a legendary dive bar that has been open since 1933. Known
locally as "The Pec", they are close to Coors Field and a great place
to have fun after a baseball game.
El Chapultepec has decent priced drinks and serves Mexican
food with a friendly group of patrons and bartenders. They are best known for
the jazz and blues bands that play there. They are a cash only bar and their
hours are 11 am to 2 am. You can see
a list of upcoming bands at the El Chapultepec website.
Don’s Club Tavern
Don’s Club Tavern is a local neighborhood dive bar that
claims to be the best dive bar in Denver.
This historic bar is located at 723 E. 6th Ave,
where they have been serving drinks since 1947. They have strong drinks and
cold beer at cheap prices plus a pool table, several TV's, shuffleboard and a
digital jukebox that has any song you can think of.
Don’s Club Tavern does not have a kitchen, but you are
allowed to bring food in, plus they have a rather unique vending machine with a
microwave next to it. Don’s Club Tavern hours are Monday - Friday 2 pm to 2 am and weekends 11 am to 2 am.
